It's a world-class symphony, truly. When I moved down from Chicago about five years ago, I was not expecting to be so impressed with the CSO. However, if I close my eyes at a concert, I can rarely hear a difference between the CSO and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, especially on pieces of music that are well-known to me (e.g., Mahler 1). The CSO truly punches well above its weight for a city the size of Charleston. It's a cultural and artistic treasure. I can't believe how fortunate the people of Charleston are to have the CSO in our midst.
