Our StoryOur Culture
Our work is built on the idea that we are all in this together. Musicians, staff, board members, volunteers, donors, patrons, and partners operate as a unified organization that values every contribution and recognizes that our success depends on shared purpose, excellence, and collective effort. This collaborative spirit allows us to respond to our community’s needs with agility, empathy, and creativity.

We exist to enrich the lives of those we serve. As Charleston’s Symphony, we continue to work with our community to build an organization that reflects its values, honors its heritage, and contributes to its future.
We are committed to the highest standard of excellence in all we do and strive to ensure that everyone in our region has the opportunity to experience the power of live orchestral music.
We embrace new ideas and remain flexible, nimble, and resilient to meet the evolving needs of our community and the changing landscape of orchestral music to ensure long-term relevance.
We uphold the highest ethical standards through transparency, accountability, and thoughtful management of our financial, human, and other resources.
We foster creativity and innovation by working together and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and represented.
We believe music has the power to inspire, comfort, challenge, and unite, and are committed to ensuring that this power is accessible to all.
Innovation requires honoring the past. But we don’t live there. Just like the city of Charleston, we are modern yet deeply connected to history, place, and the timeless joy of great music.

As someone who always knew I wanted a career in the arts but took many years to find the right fit, I feel incredibly fortunate to work for an organization whose mission brings together people who share a passion for music and community. Not only is it a great joy to connect with coworkers and patrons through that shared passion, but it is also deeply rewarding to see the meaningful impact our programs have on people of all ages. Music truly is a universal language, and it's inspiring to help bring that experience to our community every day.
