When our musicians aren’t on stage, they’re regularly performing for students in schools throughout the tri-county region.
Each year from September to April, small CSO ensembles travel to schools across the Lowcountry to perform FREE, 35 to 40-minute interactive concerts for students from kindergarten to 12th grade.
Popular with both teachers and students, our performances:
- Eliminate all barriers of access, affordability, and transportation.
- Foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of instrumental music.
- Teach students about the mechanics of individual instruments.
- Introduce students to select pieces of classical music.
- Teach students musical and instrument terminology.
- Provide a more intimate setting for students to meet Charleston Symphony musicians.
- Support music educators by bringing professional musicians into their schools.

Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestras
The Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestras enrich the lives of student musicians in our community. Our programs offer multiple orchestral and chamber music concerts, performance opportunities with our musicians, a concerto competition, masterclasses, student-centered community events, and more.
Young People’s Concerts
In partnership with Carnegie Hall and the Gaillard Center, the Charleston Symphony presents the Link Up series — three different programs (The Orchestra Sings, The Orchestra Rocks, The Orchestra Moves) for students in grades 3-5 that rotate throughout the year.
Each season we feature a series of family-friendly concerts.
With programs designed for young attention spans, these performances are a terrific way to connect children to symphonic music and expand their cultural experiences.

The Charleston Symphony Fellowship gives talented individuals from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in classical music a door to walk through to begin their career in the arts.
At the heart of the Fellowship is a collaborative cohort model that creates tight bonds and provides participants with a network of peers at the beginning of their careers — all in a community-focused learning environment.
