Mozart’s Oboe Concerto in C Major is the only surviving oboe concerto by the composer known today, a work that balances courtly elegance with the unmistakable sparkle of Mozart’s musical personality. Written during his early years for the courts of Mannheim and Salzburg, the concerto carries a sense of poise and refinement while still allowing room for wit, warmth, and virtuosic charm.
The concerto also has a fascinating history. After the original score was lost, the work was rediscovered in the 20th century through a surviving bass part and its connection to Mozart’s later Flute Concerto in D Major, which had been adapted from the oboe concerto.
