Charleston Symphony Appoints Allen Jiang as Principal Bassoon
After a competitive national audition, Allen Jiang was selected as the Charleston Symphony's new Principal Bassoon.
Allen comes to Charleston with a wealth of experience: serving as Principal Bassoon of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra; appearing regularly with the Charlotte and Atlanta Symphony Orchestras; and performing at festivals including Spoleto Festival USA, the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, where he won the concerto competition, Chautauqua, and as part of the National Youth Orchestra of the USA. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Allen studied with John Clouser, Principal Bassoon of the Cleveland Orchestra, and received the prestigious George F. Goslee Prize for outstanding artistry.
We are truly excited to welcome Allen to the Charleston Symphony. Allen will officially join us full time in January, although you may have already seen him on stage with us this season.
Allen is an important addition to our artistic family. I look forward to the musicality, depth, and leadership he will bring to the stage.
About Allen Jiang
- Served as principal bassoon in the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and was adjunct instructor of bassoon at Furman University.
- Appeared as a guest musician in orchestras such as the Atlanta Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, and Knoxville Symphony.
- Participated in numerous summer festivals including Spoleto, the Eastern Music Festival, and the Colorado College Summer Music Festival.
Originally from Chicago, Mr. Jiang began his musical career studying with Hanna Sterba and Bill Buchman. His early musical experiences included four years as a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras. He is an alum of the Cleveland Institute of Music where he studied with John Clouser.
