BIO

A former violinist turned administrative professional, Alana Morrall joined the Charleston Symphony team in 2018 as Director of Development, leading the organization’s fundraising efforts. In 2020, Alana took on the Symphony’s marketing endeavors when the pandemic necessitated the merging of two departments and worked diligently to ensure donor and audience relationships continued to thrive while the orchestra continued to perform for live audiences. Now, as Director of Marketing & Communications, she is responsible for driving the organization’s earned revenue while overseeing all communications, publications, and digital media. With the support of her dedicated and talented marketing team, Alana develops and implements compelling, data-driven, and patron-centric subscription and single ticket campaigns to grow, diversify, and engage the Symphony family.

With twenty years of marketing and development experience in the non-profit sector, Alana completed her undergraduate studies in Music History and Violin at Wake Forest University and received a master’s degree in Arts Management from American University. Alana was Director of Individual and Institutional Giving at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO). She spent six years in a leadership capacity with the BSO, managing annual fund campaigns, events, special projects, and more. Alana relocated to Charleston in 2011 to work as Director of Development for the newly revitalized Charleston Symphony and helped to create and implement one of the organization’s first comprehensive fundraising programs.

Prior to returning to the Charleston Symphony in 2018, Alana spent close to six years as the Director of Development and Marketing with East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO), a nonprofit organization that serves low-income families across the Lowcountry. Previous roles also include Office Manager at Washington Concert Opera, Music Theory Teaching Assistant at American University, and Adjunct Professor of Arts Management at the College of Charleston.

Although born and raised in Washington, DC, Alana has deep roots in the Charleston area, where her father’s family has lived since 1690. Alana currently resides on James Island with her rescue dog, Bella.
