Project Launch & Season Preview Concert

Announcing something truly special! The Charleston Symphony invites you to preview the newest chapter of our story.

Join members of the orchestra and special guests to learn about the CSO’s latest artistic initiative, The New Aurorean Coterie Project (aka Project Aurora), a multi-season celebration of music and art born on our very own soil, and a preview of all the new faces and endeavors that makes up the CSO’s next chapter. It will be an evening of music of composers you’ll hear in the 2022-23 season, discussion, updates, and reception to follow.

Registration is complimentary but required for general admission tickets.

The CSO is committed to being an orchestra for all of Charleston and the 2022-2023 season begins the incorporation of a New Sound to our palette. You’ll hear musical masterpieces directly rooted from Charleston’s African-American and Gullah musical heritage alongside the works you already know and love.  Whether you are new to classical music or a long-time concert attendee, we want you to join us and we encourage you to spread the word.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
Spearheaded by our esteemed Associate Conductor Kellen Gray, Project Aurora will continue the work and mission of an early 20th century Charleston-based coterie African-American composers, musicians, and artists in promoting, preserving, and celebrating African American and Gullah-Geechee arts and culture through our existing program as well as new projects.

Project Aurora will be instrumental in the CSO’s ongoing journey to change the narrative surrounding the traditional misconception of classical music as an arena reserved for a select few. As an orchestra operating in an incredibly diverse community woven together by the fabric of shared history, programming will seek to reflect Charleston’s cultural vibrancy through thoughtful artistic planning and demystification of the symphonic experience.
