PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Reports to: Production Manager

The Charleston Symphony is looking for a dependable and hands-on Production Assistant to join our team. This part-time role is essential to making our concerts run smoothly—from setting up the stage to helping transport instruments and equipment. You’ll work closely with our Production Manager and stage crew to create a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for our musicians and audiences. Each season, the Symphony performs for thousands of community members and students, and this role helps ensure every performance is delivered with excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with moving, loading, and unloading heavy equipment (instruments, risers, shells, staging elements)
  • Set up and strike chairs, stands, podiums, and other stage equipment according to layouts
  • Support transport of instruments and equipment between rehearsal and performance venues
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient backstage/stage environment
  • Work collaboratively with the Production Manager and stage crew

Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs (with assistance for heavier items)
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work evenings/weekends
  • Knowledge of classical music is preferred, but not necessary
  • Must successfully complete a background check

Compensation: Part time hourly, $20/hr; Minimum 4-hour call per shift

Schedule: Flexible hours with required evening and weekend availability during performance weeks
