Marketing & Design Manager
The Charleston Symphony (CSO) is seeking an energetic, creative candidate to serve as the organization’s multimedia designer, social media manager, and content creator. The successful applicant will be a hardworking and flexible team player who is poised to support the CSO’s strategic audience growth objectives and generating close to $2M in earned revenue. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, this role is best suited for an individual with positive attitude, advanced design and layout skills, an aptitude for innovation and digital media, and is eager to make a difference in the nonprofit arts sector. While the CSO operates in a hybrid work environment, he/she must be available evenings and weekends, especially during the heart of our concert season (September-April).
Founded in 1936, the Charleston Symphony has grown into one of the largest full-time performing arts organizations in South Carolina. The CSO presents more than 150 concerts and educational activities every year, reaching more than 50,000 adults and students annually. Employing 36 full-time musicians, artistic personnel, and administrative staff, the Charleston Symphony’s mission is to inspire and engage our community through exceptional musical experiences and educational offerings.
YOUR IMPACT
- Supports all marketing and advertising efforts, including subscription renewal and acquisition campaigns, single ticket sales, and patron communications.
- Designs print and digital materials, producing exceptional collateral to include brochures, postcards, social media graphics, branded items, signage, and more.
- Executes a robust e-blast program to generate earned revenue and provide meaningful content to more than 20,000 subscribers.
- Manages and updates the Symphony’s social media accounts across multiple platforms.
- Creates captivating multimedia content to drive sales, awareness, and enhanced engagement.
- Advances the department’s increased digital advertising campaigns.
- Works cross-departmentally to support design needs and other external collateral, ensuring the Symphony’s brand is accurately represented.
- Staffs the marketing and merchandise table at Symphony performances and community events.
- Provides excellent customer service to CSO patrons and prospects.
- Supports the Director of Marketing in all areas as needed.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree (Marketing, Graphic Design, Arts Management, or related field).
- Minimum 2+ years digital marketing or visual design experience.
- Expertise managing social media accounts with demonstrated success growing audiences for business accounts (specifically Facebook and Instagram).
- Ability to create shorts, reels, promotional videos, and other visual media projects.
- Advanced layout and design skills with expertise using Adobe Creative Suite apps.
- Experience with digital advertising; knowledge of current and emerging trends.
- Experience with Mailchimp (or comparable email platform).
- Strong organizational skills with extreme attention to detail.
- Excellent grammar and writing proficiencies.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
- A flexible team player who can work independently.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed during the CSO’s main season.
- A passion for the arts and an understanding of classical music is essential!
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous work with nonprofits or in the performing arts sector is preferred.
- Experience with website management, specifically WordPress, is desirable.
- Fundamental knowledge of CRMs or patron databases.
- Experience using Asana or similar project management tool.
- Photography and/or video production.
